Inclusive Higher Education for Deaf People Around the World

What is 'Inclusive Education'?

There are a number of views about what Inclusive Education is. According to the United Nations Children's Emergency Fund, inclusive education means every child has the right to quality education and learning (UNICEF 2021). It is when all students, regardless of any challenges including people with disabilities are placed in the appropriate general education in their own schools to receive the resources and/or support services they need in order to meet success in education (McManis 2020).

The goal is to ensure that ALL students the right to have access to quality education, to be a part of the school community, and most importantly, be a part of the classroom, and the opportunity to continue to higher education and beyond.

'The power and the promise of inclusion: making sure everyone is supported, everyone is challenged, and everyone benefits from this.'
